Seasonal Gallery Attendant
National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL)
The Gallery Attendant helps create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable experience for all visitors. This position is responsible for greeting guests, answering basic questions about the current exhibition, monitoring gallery activity, and keeping interactive exhibit areas clean and organized.
Responsibilities

• Greet visitors and provide a friendly welcome.

• Answer basic questions about the exhibition and the NCCIL.

• Help visitors understand and follow gallery rules.

• Ensure children are supervised by their accompanying adults.

• Monitor gallery spaces and assist visitors as needed.

• Reset and organize interactive exhibit materials every 30 minutes.

• Keep gallery areas clean, tidy, and ready for visitors.

• Report damaged materials, safety concerns, or other issues to a supervisor.

• Follow opening, closing, and daily gallery procedures.

Qualifications

• Friendly and comfortable speaking with visitors.

• Enjoys working around children and families.

• Reliable, attentive, and organized.

• Able to communicate rules and expectations in a warm, professional manner.

• Able to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly tidy exhibit areas.

Position Details

• Pay: $10 per hour

• Hours: 15–20 hours per week during October, November and December, with potential for extension. 

• Schedule: Weekday mornings, most Saturdays, and some weeknights for special events

• Supervisor: NCCIL Director
