Every Dog in the Neighborhood (Cordell)

Louis really wants a dog, but his Grandma insists, "There are enough dogs in the neighborhood already." Determined to prove her wrong, Louis decides to gather evidence by finding out exactly how many dogs live nearby. As Grandma runs errands, Louis starts knocking on doors, meeting all kinds of dogs—big, small, working dogs, sock-eating dogs, and even dogs who are dearly missed. (He also encounters cats, birds, and one enormous python, but they don’t count!) When he returns home, he's ready to tell Grandma how many dogs there are. But Grandma surprises him with one lovable dog he overlooked—a dog in need of a home. Maybe there really are enough dogs in the neighborhood after all.
