In 1997, Going Home with David Diaz was the first exhibition of the newly incorporated the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL). In the summer of 2002, this exhibition of Caldecott award-winning illustrator David Diaz was refreshed and began touring as The Many Faces of David Diaz. Featuring artwork from Diaz’s 1994 Caldecott winning book, Smoky Night, this exhibition showcases Diaz’s skill as a fine artist as well as an illustrator. David Diaz uses bold, dynamic and unique art styles in creating richly beautiful and striking illustrations in acrylic, watercolor, gouache, vegetable dyes, pastel and pencil on paper. Some of Diaz’s recent illustrations in this exhibition are rendered digitally.
