"City at Night Crayon Resist"

Based on Big Jimmy’s Kum Kau Chinese Take Out

Materials:
Crayons or oil pastels, white paper, watercolor set, water

Instructions:
Think of a city with big buildings. Buildings can be tall or short, narrow or wide. Begin by drawing with crayon. Draw lots of shapes for your buildings. Press firmly with your crayon to make rich, solid lines. Draw tall office buildings with lots of windows, draw restaurants with people inside eating, draw bookstores, department stores, anything you can think of. You could draw cars and buses on the roads. You can add a moon or stars in the sky. Add yellow or white for lights in the windows and for the headlights of the cars and buses. Fill your page with a busy city. Next, you will get your brush wet and gently brush on top of the black paint in your paint set. Be sure the brush has plenty of water. Paint directly on top of your crayon drawing. Watch what happens! The wax in your crayons will push the paint away and leave the crayon. The paper that does not have crayon on it will be black like the night sky.
